Kick Cabin Fever Indoor Triathlon

Start: Feb 01, 2020 - 9:00am

End: Feb 01, 2020 - 12:00pm

The Chautauqua County Department of Mental Hygiene has announced the 12th Annual Kick Cabin Fever (KCF) Indoor Triathlon. The event will be held on Saturday, Feb. 1, 2020 at 9 a.m. at Chautauqua Health and Fitness at the Turner Community Center, 4840 W. Lake Rd. in Mayville, N.Y.

Cheryl Burns, a local triathlete, began the indoor triathlon one year after her brother Marty Miller died by suicide due to several years of depression. The event is intended to get people moving during one of the toughest winter months in Chautauqua County.

During the indoor triathlon, participants of all ages will try to accumulate the most distance. The events include a 15-minute swim in an Olympic pool, a 15-minute bike on an upright spinner bike, and a 15-minute run on a treadmill.

The fee for the event is $35 per individual or $70 per a team, which can consist of two or three people.

All proceeds for the KCF Triathlon stay in Chautauqua County for suicide prevention efforts. Last year, proceeds were donated to The Community Alliance for Suicide Prevention. The Alliance was formed when local professionals from the mental health and other health care fields saw a great need in the community for supports and education around suicide prevention. These community members and others answered the call for action and started The Community Alliance for Suicide Prevention. Over the past several years, The Alliance and its partner agencies have worked together to train local community members from all walks of life in suicide prevention and awareness.
