Code Blue

Code Blue is an emergency initiative activated during periods of extreme cold weather to protect individuals experiencing homelessness from life-threatening conditions. It ensures access to safe, warm shelter for anyone exposed to the dangers of freezing temperatures. In Chautauqua County, Code Blue is a collaborative effort involving local agencies, warming centers, and law enforcement to provide immediate assistance to those in need.

 

Overnight warming center open on nights when Code Blue is called.

The Overnight Code Blue Warming Center, operated by Recovery Options Made Easy, is located at 917 Washington Street in Jamestown, NY on Code Blue qualifying nights 11/1/24 – 4/30/25 from 5:30 pm to 7:30 am. Code Blue is triggered when temperatures reach 32 degrees or lower, including wind chill, and requires shelter access to anyone in need of assistance

 

Emergency Shelter During Regular Business Hours

When:

  • Monday–Friday, 8:30 AM – 4:30 PM

Where:

  • Dunkirk: Department of Mental Hygiene and Social Services, 15 W. Lucas Avenue
  • Jamestown: Department of Mental Hygiene and Social Services, 110 E. Fourth Street

Staff will assist in making emergency shelter arrangements.
