Chautauqua County residents are strongly advised to avoid all unnecessary travel due to the ongoing lake effect snowstorm.
The National Weather Service has issued a Lake Effect Snow Warning for Chautauqua County, in effect until 7 PM Monday, December 2. Snow accumulation of 2 to 4 feet in the most persistent snowbands is forecasted through Monday with whiteout conditions, treacherous roads, and rapidly changing weather is expected. Travel will be very difficult to impossible in the heaviest bands.
“Staying home and off the roads during this storm not only protects you but also allows our crews to keep up with cleanup efforts and respond to emergencies as quickly as possible,” said County Executive PJ Wendel. “Your cooperation is essential for everyone’s safety and a prompt response.”
Chautauqua County road crews are out in full force, working hard to treat roads and respond in real time to the storm.
County officials are also in communication with our state and local partners to coordinate resources and support as conditions evolve.
If you must travel, drive with extreme caution. Bring a winter storm kit: flashlight, blankets, extra clothing, food, water, first aid supplies, and a shovel.
