MAYVILLE, NY – The community came together on Saturday, May 4, to commemorate the unveiling of a new educational kiosk at the Chautauqua Hometown Heroes Veterans Memorial. The ribbon-cutting ceremony marked a significant moment in honoring the legacy of our nation's veterans and educating future generations about their sacrifices.

Situated next to the memorial site, the newly installed kiosk offers a wealth of historical insights, focusing on the American Revolution and its profound impact on the diverse groups involved. Visitors can explore the contributions of various Native American tribes, including the Oneida, Tuscarora, Cherokee, Seneca, Onondaga, Cayuga, and Mohawk, who stood alongside American colonists in the fight for independence from England.

"The unveiling of this educational kiosk represents a pivotal moment in our community's commitment to honoring our veterans and preserving their stories for generations to come," said Clara Dunbar, Vice President of the Chautauqua Hometown Heroes Veterans Memorial Committee.

The kiosk provides a detailed narrative of the American Revolutionary War, highlighting the significant battles that shaped the course of history. From the initial clashes in the original 13 colonies to the final treaty signing in 1783, the kiosk offers a comprehensive overview of this transformative period.

"The Chautauqua Hometown Heroes Veterans Memorial stands as a testament to the bravery and sacrifice of our service men and women," said Dunbar. "We are proud to honor their legacy and ensure that their stories are never forgotten."

Since its dedication in October 2021, the Chautauqua Hometown Heroes Veterans Memorial has served as a place of reflection and remembrance for the entire Chautauqua County community. The gazebo-like structure, adorned with walls of commemorative bricks, pays tribute to the countless individuals who have served our country with valor and distinction.

"At a time when our nation faces new challenges, it is essential to remember the courage and resilience of those who came before us," said Chautauqua County Executive Paul M. Wendel Jr. "The educational kiosk will serve as a beacon of knowledge, inspiring future generations to uphold the values of freedom and democracy."

Located in the heart of the Mayville Cemetery on Route 430, the Chautauqua Hometown Heroes Veterans Memorial is a collaborative effort driven by the passion and dedication of local residents. Together, the community created a lasting tribute to the heroes who have shaped our nation's history.
