DA Secures Prison Time for Chautauqua County Drug Dealer

Submitted by Justin Gould on Tue, 11/28/2023 - 08:38

MAYVILLE, NY – District Attorney Jason Schmidt announced Monday that John Anzalone has been sentenced by Chautauqua County Court Judge David Foley to twelve [12] years’ determinate in state prison plus five [5] years’ post release supervision.

John Anzalone was convicted after a jury trial on September 19, 2023, of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the 2nd Degree, a class A-II felony.  ADA Erik Bentley and ADA Andrew Molitor handled the case for the District Attorney’s office.

At sentencing, ADA Bentley argued to the Court that the defendant “is a piece of the illegal drug system that has taken countless lives.  ADA Bentley asked the Court to send a message to the people who are a part of that system that the “endless cycle of addiction and destruction brought about by dealing drugs will not be tolerated in Chautauqua County.”

The DA would like to thank the Jamestown Police Department’s Metro Drug Task Force, the JPD Detective Bureau, Ellicott Police Department, and the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s office for their hard work on this case.

The Jamestown Police added “that the hard work and dedication from all of the law enforcement agencies involved in this case, including the District Attorney's Office, is the reason for this successful outcome. The Jamestown Police Department and Jamestown Metro Drug Task Force will continue to work with all of our law enforcement partners to rid our communities of not only drug dealers, but anyone who thinks that they are going to come here and commit crimes. This sentence is a clear indication that if you come to Jamestown to sell drugs and ruin lives, you will be held accountable.”
