Jamestown Burglary Convict Receives 10-Year State Prison Sentence

MAYVILLE, NY - District Attorney Jason Schmidt announced Tuesday that William Buckley of Jamestown, New York, was sentenced in County Court Monday morning to 10 years in state prison followed by five years of parole supervision after having recently been convicted of Burglary in the First Degree, a class B violent felony, arising from a home invasion robbery which occurred in the City of Jamestown on December 26, 2022.

“Mr. Buckley was convicted of, and has now been sentenced on, the top count of our indictment.  No reductions or offers were made to resolve the case.  We could not have achieved this end-result without the hard work and dedication of the Jamestown Police, and the resilience and bravery of the victim in this matter.  It is because of them that our case was so strong.  Unfortunately, we live in a dangerous world in which bad people prey upon the vulnerable.  It is up to each one of us, as good neighbors and citizens, to look out for those around us.  There is no greater law enforcement tool then the eyes and ears of the community, and a willingness to contact the police if you observe anything suspicious.  If you see something, say something,” said DA Schmidt.

Jamestown Police Chief Tim Jackson added “Due to the swift actions of our patrol officers and detectives, Buckley was apprehended within hours to face the consequences of his cowardice acts. The Jamestown Police Department would like to thank the District Attorney’s Office for again standing up for victims and bringing offenders such as Buckley to justice”. The police department further added that teamwork has been a key factor in solving cases recently, “When law enforcement and the public all work together, the result ends positively. In this case, everyone came together and it ended in the conviction of a dangerous criminal. The Jamestown Police received assistance from the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s office, the public, but most importantly from the victim. This type of collaboration is what society needs more of so that justice can be achieved.”
