On Friday, May 16, 2025, Chautauqua County District Attorney Jason Schmidt and Chautauqua County Public Defender Nathaniel Barone addressed the media following the sentencing of Hadi Matar. Matar received a determinate sentence of 25 years in prison for attempted murder, with an additional 5 years of post-release supervision. He was also sentenced to 7 years for assault, plus 3 years of post-release supervision. Both sentences will run concurrently.
