MAYVILLE, N.Y. – Chautauqua County Government is pleased to announce upcoming sidewalk improvements and parking lot repaving at its Mayville campus, beginning September 9, 2024. The project will enhance the safety and aesthetics of the campus while addressing much-needed infrastructure updates.
The initial phase of the project will take place in front of the Hall R. Clothier (HRC) Building, located at 7 N. Erie St. in Mayville, starting on the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) side off of Peacock and Vista Street. The project will then move to other areas around the campus, including the employee entrance of the Gerace Office Building (GOB). The work is expected to take four to five weeks to complete, depending on weather conditions.
What to Expect:
- Entrance Closures: Crews will block off one entrance at a time to minimize disruptions. The DMV will be restricted to one door for both entry and exit, while employees and other visitors may need to use alternative entrances such as the Board of Elections (BOE) door or the first-floor entrance from the GOB parking lot.
- Limited Parking: Available parking spaces will be reduced at times as the work progresses. We ask visitors and staff to follow all posted signs, barricades, and instructions from the construction crew.
- Detours and Adjustments: Cones will be placed to direct traffic and pedestrians around the construction areas. Please exercise caution when navigating the campus.
“While we understand that this work may cause some inconvenience, these improvements are necessary for the long-term safety and accessibility of the campus,” Chautauqua County Executive PJ Wendel emphasized. “We appreciate everyone’s patience and cooperation as we work to provide a better, safer environment for our residents, employees, and visitors.”
Officials encourage everyone visiting the campus during this time to plan for slight delays, arrive earlier than usual, and stay alert near construction zones.
“We are committed to minimizing disruptions and ensuring the work is completed efficiently,” Josh Rothwell, Assistant Deputy Director of Public Facilities (Buildings and Grounds), added. “These upgrades will not only improve safety but also enhance the overall experience for everyone visiting or working at the Mayville campus.”
In the end, officials are confident that the completed project will offer a more welcoming and safer space for all.
