MAYVILLE, N.Y. – Chautauqua County honors Dennis Webster, a broadcasting icon and lifelong resident of Jamestown, for his remarkable 54-year career in the media industry.

Webster retired in August 2024, leaving behind a legacy that has shaped the county’s airwaves for decades. He followed in his father’s footsteps, continuing a family tradition of broadcasting excellence that began more than half a century ago.

Throughout his career, Webster became a household name in Chautauqua County, hosting a variety of programs on WJTN and becoming a trusted voice for local news, agriculture, and community affairs.

“Dennis’ commitment to spotlighting Chautauqua County’s agricultural heritage has been a hallmark of his work,” said County Executive PJ Wendel. “He consistently used his platform to uplift the voices and stories of our community, preserving the values and traditions that make our county unique.”

Webster received numerous accolades throughout his career for both his professionalism and service to the community. His presence on the airwaves will be deeply missed by listeners and colleagues alike.

In recognition of his career, Webster was presented with a special commendation at the Chautauqua County Legislature Meeting this week.

“Please allow me to share this commendation with WJTN and radio, my employer for all these years. I could not have accomplished any of the things you just talked about if they had not allowed me to do so and given me the privilege to be on the air there,” said Webster. “I've enjoyed fine support from my family through the years—our children, Hannah and Claire, and especially my wife, Sheila.”

Webster’s retirement marks the end of an era, but his contributions to the media and to the county will continue to resonate for years to come.
