JAMESTOWN, NY – Chautauqua County's airports, Jamestown Airport and Dunkirk Airport, are featured in the latest issue of Business View Magazine. The article highlights the airports' pivotal role in regional development through strategic infrastructure upgrades and community engagement initiatives.

Shannon Fischer, the airports’ manager, detailed the ongoing Air Service Recovery Program, aiming to reclaim Essential Air Service (EAS) funding or secure a Small Community Air Service Development (SCASD) grant. This program is vital for reintroducing commercial flights to Jamestown, which last had commercial service in 2017. The study is halfway through and aims to find the best routes to serve the community's needs.

Both airports primarily handle general aviation (GA) traffic but are ready for potential commercial service. The article highlights recent and ongoing infrastructure projects, such as runway and taxiway rehabilitations, new LED lighting, enhanced safety protocols, and upcoming terminal renovations. These improvements are designed to bolster capacity, safety, and operational efficiency.

The feature also explores the airports' contributions to local tourism and the economy. Attractions like the Chautauqua Institution and the National Comedy Center draw numerous visitors, while the region's lakes and ski resorts support seasonal tourism. The airports cater to corporate aviation needs, with companies like Cummins, Wells, and Purina frequently utilizing the facilities.

In addition to infrastructure, the airports focus on workforce development and community collaboration. Initiatives like flight training programs at Jamestown High School and tours for local students aim to address the aviation sector's labor shortages. The airports also engage with the community through events like the Rotary pancake breakfast at Dunkirk Airport.

Looking to the future, the airports have comprehensive master plans identifying key projects for the next five years. These include further runway rehabilitations, apron upgrades, and safety enhancements. An air show is also being planned for 2026 to increase community engagement.
