MAYVILLE, NY – Chautauqua County recognized the extraordinary service and dedication of Ron Hasson during its November full legislature meeting. A Letter of Commendation, signed by County Executive Paul M. Wendel, Jr., celebrated Mr. Hasson’s nearly 50 years of remarkable contributions to emergency medical services (EMS) and the community.
Ron Hasson began his service as a member of the Celoron Fire Department in 1975, where he rose through the ranks to serve as Fire Chief for five years. His EMS journey began in 1977 when he became an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) at Jamestown Community College. Soon after, Mr. Hasson was asked to teach CPR and practical skills, starting a prolific career as an educator and leader in EMS training.
Highlights of Mr. Hasson’s career include:
- Serving as Senior Instructor for EMT courses and Coordinator of EMT Training at Jamestown Community College from 1984 to 2023.
- Being one of New York State's original 50 instructors certified to train EMT instructors, appointed by the Department of Health in 1998.
- Teaching Advanced Cardiac, Pediatric, and Trauma Life Support courses and earning a National Paramedic certification.
Mr. Hasson was instrumental in the creation of Starflight Medevac in 1986, serving as a flight medic for seven years and later contributing administratively to the program. He also worked full-time for the WCA Hospital and UPMC Healthcare systems, retiring as EMS Resources Manager after 46 years of service.
Beyond his professional roles, Mr. Hasson was actively involved in numerous organizations, including the Chautauqua County Hazardous Materials Response Team, Chautauqua County EMS Council, and New York State EMS leadership committees. He received the prestigious New York State Commissioner of Health’s EMS Leadership Award in 1993.
“Ron’s contributions have been nothing short of extraordinary. His dedication to teaching, leading, and advancing EMS services has made a profound impact on our community and beyond,” said County Executive Wendel. “We thank Ron for his decades of service and wish him the very best in his well-deserved retirement.”
This commendation underscores the gratitude of Chautauqua County for Mr. Hasson’s lifelong commitment to emergency services, education, and public safety.
