The Chautauqua County Department of Mental Hygiene (CCDMH) is partnering with Combat Addiction CHQ and the HEALing Communities Study to offer free naloxone training to the public at the Prendergast Library in Jamestown, N.Y. The program provides information on recognizing an opioid overdose, administering naloxone, and caring for the individual until emergency services arrive. Individuals who complete the training program will receive a complementary naloxone (NARCAN®) kit.
During the past year, Chautauqua County has experienced an increased opioid overdose rate. An opioid overdose can happen to anyone consuming opioids for medical or recreational use. To address this concern and to save lives, CCDMH and the HEALing Communities Study are working together to promote naloxone training and distribution.
Naloxone (NARCAN®) nasal spray is a lifesaving medication that reverses an opioid overdose in minutes. Anyone can be trained to administer Narcan, which is extremely simple. Even if you are not personally affected by opioid use, it is always safe to have a naloxone (NARCAN®) kit in case a neighbor, bystander, or family member is in need. You can save a life.
The training is scheduled for Tuesday, May 23, 2023, in the Fire Place Meeting Room of the Prendergast Library, 509 Cherry Street, Jamestown, N.Y., 5-6:00 pm. If you are interested in attending this event, please register by emailing Debbie Ostroski at Ostroskd@chqgov.com. If you have any questions about the event programming, please email Vito Randazzo at Randazzv.firstname.lastname@example.org.
The HEALing Communities Study is an initiative to reduce opioid overdose-related deaths using community-wide, evidence-based solutions.
