Birth Control & Pregnancy

Birth Control

There are many safe and effective methods of birth control for people to use. Although hormonal contraceptives and IUDs are highly effective at preventing pregnancy, they do not protect against STDs, including HIV. Consistent and correct use of the male latex condom reduces the risk for HIV infection and other STDs, including chlamydial infection, gonococcal infection, and trichomoniasis.

Information on different types of contraceptives can be found at: https://caiglobal.org/wp-content/uploads/2022/09/cap-birth-control-grid-english.pdf

Program Overview

By using a condom correctly every time you have anal, oral or vaginal sex, you can protect yourself and your partners from sexually transmitted infections (STIs) including HIV, and unplanned pregnancy.  The only way to protect yourself from STIs and unplanned pregnancy is to not have sex, however, condoms are highly effective in preventing HIV and unplanned pregnancy and reducing the risk for many STIs.

  • Organizations and businesses can request free condoms by calling (716) 753-4491.
