Medical Services
In conformance with applicable Federal and New York State laws and regulations, medical services in the Chautauqua County Jail are implemented by the Public Health Division of the County’s Health Department with the Chief Medical Officer serving as the Responsible Health Authority.
Comprehensive medical and mental health services are provided by staff of the Chautauqua County Health Department, Chautauqua County Department of Mental Hygiene and other local providers. Staff members consist of physicians, registered nurses, licensed practical nurses, licensed clinical social workers, certified alcohol and substance abuse counselors, care coordinators, and administrative staff, as well as a Substance Use Disorder treatment team. Specialty services are provided through various contracts. An important part of the Correctional Health program is the identification and treatment for community health priorities.
The mission of the Correctional Health program is to deliver holistic health care services with respect and compassion to individuals detained in the custody of the Sheriff’s Office. The medical program ensures the provision of emergency, acute and basic medical/mental health care services to all Incarcerated Individuals in a timely manner. Correctional Health staff strive to prevent the spread of communicable and contagious diseases, prevent and treat chronic conditions, promote healthy behaviors, improve well-being and self-sufficiency, and assist with linkages for success upon release.
