Boil Water Order Lifted For Fredonia Village Water Customers

Submitted by Justin Gould on Sun, 04/21/2024 - 11:53

MAYVILLE, N.Y - The Chautauqua County Health Department, in conjunction with the Village of Fredonia has lifted the boil water order for all Village of Fredonia water customers, including customers within the Town of Pomfret.  Turbidity in the distribution system has returned to acceptable levels and two consecutive days of testing indicate that the water throughout the distribution system is safe for drinking, cooking, making ice, brushing teeth, making coffee, etc.

All plumbing lines that have not been used regularly since the boil water went into effect should be flushed before water from that line is consumed.  This includes ice makers and refrigerator water dispensers.

If you did not receive regular updates and alerts regarding the boil water order we encourage you to sign up for the NY Alert system at https://alert.ny.gov/sign-ny-alert-0 and make sure you register a phone number or email address that you use regularly.

If you have questions about how municipal water systems operate and are regulated visit the New York State Department of Health website at https://www.health.ny.gov/environmental/water/drinking/

For more information, residents should call the Village of Fredonia at (716) 679-2307 and Chautauqua County Health Department permitted facilities can call the Health Department directly at (716) 753-4481.
