On Saturday, September 12, the Eighth Annual Raynor Memorial Golf Tournament will be held at Maplehurst Country Club in Lakewood, NY. Proceeds from the tournament go to the local Community Alliance for Suicide Prevention, The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention of WNY, and local families who have been affected by suicide. The tournament honors the memory of Danny Raynor, who lost his life to suicide in 2007.
The golf tournament will be a 4-person scramble at a cost of $75 per person or $300 for a team of four golfers. This includes 18 holes of golf, a cart, a t-shirt, lunch, dinner to-go, and other giveaways. The event brings friends, family, and others in the community together not only to remember Danny, but to remember other loved ones lost to suicide.
Tournament organizers have planned for precautions to ensure social distancing during the event. Registration will take place outside in the morning and golfers can proceed directly to their carts after completing registration. Lunch and dinner will be served, pre-packaged, in takeout containers with individually wrapped cutlery. Seating for dinner will be available outside in addition to limited seating inside the clubhouse. Those who come inside the venue will be required to wear masks. Hand sanitizer, masks, and gloves will be available for those attending the event.
Since the tournament’s first year in 2012, over $110,000 has been raised for the fight against suicide in the Western New York Region. Carri Raynor, who was Danny’s wife, organizes the tournament.
The Community Alliance for Suicide Prevention is a group dedicated to protecting and promoting life by fostering shared responsibility through raising awareness and community supports while embracing hopefulness and resiliency in the Chautauqua region.
Since the founding in 2011, The Community Alliance for Suicide Prevention has collaborated with a number of local organizations and businesses to educate community members on the warning signs of suicide as well as provide resources for individuals, providers, and families to get help and provide information on how to keep loved ones safe. The Alliance also trains community members in other mental health related topics including students in local school districts and on college campuses.
The tournament organizers invite you to join us in taking a swing in the fight for suicide prevention. Let’s make every effort to beat last year’s contributions!
