Now available, US households are eligible for 4 free COVID tests.  These tests can be mailed directly to your address. These tests will detect current COVID-19 variants and can be used through the end of the year.  These tests can be ordered online at www.COVIDTests.gov

Another available option is the Orasure InteliSwab test, which is more accessible for people who are blind or have low vision as well as people who have low manual dexterity.  For more information, including ordering instructions, please visit www.ACL.gov/AccessibleTests

For either test kit option you can order by phone: Call 1-800-232-0233 to reach the CDC Information line, and then:

  • Select language: Press 1 for English, 2 for Spanish, 3 for other languages
  • Press 1 to order regular COVID-19 at-home tests
  • Press 8 to order the more accessible tests or remain on the line to order the regular tests.

Many COVID-19 tests have extended expiration dates. You may be able to use your COVID-19 tests after the expiration date that is printed on the box.  The expiration date is set at the end of the shelf-life and is the date through which the test is expected to perform as accurately as when manufactured. In some cases, the expiration date for a test may be extended.  An extended expiration date means the manufacturer provided data showing that the shelf-life is longer than was known when the test was first authorized. For more information about how the expiration date is determined and why it may be extended, go online to the  https://www.fda.gov/medical-devices.

With most at-home OTC COVID-19 diagnostic tests, you should repeat testing following a negative result, whether you have symptoms or not, to reduce your risk of a false negative test result. The FDA encourages you to voluntarily and anonymously report your positive or negative test results every time you use an at-home COVID-19 test. You can send your test result to MakeMyTestCount.org  or use an app or other digital option for self-reporting that may be included with your test.

Another option as well to get a free at home COVID-19 test is to reach out to your local Office for Aging Services.  We have tests available in each of our 3 locations, Dunkirk, Mayville and Jamestown.

If you need any further assistance please reach out to the Office for Aging Services and NY Connects either by stopping at one of our office locations, via email at ccnyc@chqgov.com or by phone at 716-753-4582.
